Team Jaylie

This morning I woke the kids up at 5:15 am, fed them their breakfast, they brushed their teeth, dressed and we raced out the door to.......
Jaylie's a 5 year old girl from Round Rock who is fighting a rare and aggressive cancer.
Her friends and family put on the 5k to help cover medical costs.
I really wanted to go and once I told the kids her story, they did to!
After we registered for the run, Kailyn got her face painted and we set out to explore.
They had a lot of free fun activities going on all around.
It really was a FUN run.

Wyatt's happy face after he bounced to his heart content.
Then the kids wrote letters to Jaylie.
Gus decorated mine for me.
Bean bag toss.
Gus started out throwing them at the clown,
but ended chucking the bean bags at the guy!

The guy was really nice and give all the kids prizes even though they didn't win.
Kailyn got a flower ring, Wyatt a piece of candy and Gus a ball.
Who immediately started playing catch!

Then he would clap and do a little jig every time Kailyn would get the ball he threw.

The kids with the "boy chick-fil-a cow".
My fault.
From a far it looked like a basket ball player cow, not a cheerleader cow.

We practically chased the Princess cow down for Kailyn to get her picture.
Every time we'd head over to where she was she'd be somewhere else.
These cows, I'll tell ya, are pretty sneaky.
The fun run.
Wyatt off like a bat out of hell.
He's a fast runner and would have done all four laps at that pace, if I didn't make him stop occasionally so I could haul Kailyn, Gus and I up to him.
He's such a good sport and was so patient with us.
Kailyn did well too.
She'd have moments where she'd stop and I carry her and run half a lap.
Then set her down and she'd be off sprinting again.
They did it!
1 mile run in 17 minutes!
Way to go Wyatt and Kay, I am so proud of you!
I'm proud of you too, Gus!
You didn't fuss or fall out during the run or when I was carrying Kailyn too.

After the run, they built birdhouses via Home Depot.
Correction I built both of them.
They were adamant about building them, then didn't want to actually BUILD them.
So that left me trying to hammer the heck out of these suckers all the while keeping Gus out of the trash box/running off/trying to stuff his face in the soccer net!
So don't look to closely.
Though the gaping crack on the roof of Kailyn's is pretty hard to ignore, try anyways.
Gus
after I took him away from the net and told him that no matter how hard he tried to squeeze his face through the net it wouldn't fit through.
The kids saw a little girl that had a Hello Kitty spray on tattoo.
So we found the booth and got one.
Wyatt didn't want one but he was happy to help Kailyn pick hers out.

She decided I needed one too.

Gus sporting his new shirt.

Then we came home and made cookies!!

I went back to Jaylie's 5K website to see some pictures of it all when I stumbled upon THIS.
It really was amazing to witness a whole community coming together with love and support for that beautiful little girl and her family.
