I have a friend in Austin who has her kids do science projects, book reports and all sorts of school stuff during the summer to help keep what they've learned fresh. I always thought that was awesome and was excited to one day do it with my kids. Well....swimming, playing and doing whatever we want all day is a lot easier. BUT I have been trying to keep Wyatt on a schedule of reading, math and writing. It worked really well for the first month of summer but the more pregnant I get and the more Travis is gone it gets pushed to the way side. So I've tried to include some sort of curriculum here and there.
Wyatt having a reading buddy helps A LOT!
He loves to read to Gus (and Kailyn usually joins in as well) and its like discovering he has a super power because they can't read yet and he can. So he really enjoys reading to them vs. me and being a big kids and what not.
Making him do a report/presentation on what he learned from watching T.V.
Making Kailyn do one as well.
Can you tell what they each watched?
We've been keeping cool at the Splash Pad and swimming almost daily..
except when it rains then we play LEGOS all day and.....
pretend we are on vacation!
The airplane was the couch and drinks and crackers were served.
Then they took turns drawing from a hat to figure out their destinations.
Also lately staying in our beds has been a rough chore. And since I'm growing another sibling for my kids at the moment and a single mom most of the time sleep is hard to come by and then with an added extra kick in the back/head/face/stomach at night, its almost impossible. Positive reinforcement was all I could come up with so we made a star chart. If they stayed in their beds ALL night they got a star when they reached five stars they could pick somewhere/something fun to do.
Wyatt was the first to complete and picked going to the movies.
Despicable Me 2!
*Note to self NEVER go to a Saturday morning movie! Third row from screen after arriving an HOUR early...COME ON!
Gus was next to complete 5 stars and picked Jumpalooza!
They all had a blast!
Call of the Gussy!
Kailyn has yet to complete 5 stars and I have since done away with the chart...because it seemed to have lost its charm for them already 3 weeks seemed to be the max for it. So now were on to stuffed animals. They start out with them, if they get out of bed, talk constantly or are just generally not going to bed they get them taken away. Then I come back and check on them in 5 minutes and they can earn them back if they're calm and quiet. It's worked for a week...heres to hoping a few more!

You're amazing! Don't you ever die. You know on Star Trek captain Kirk says, "Engage." Yep, that would be you always engaged. What a great summer.
